Driver hurt in 1-car crash on Route 68

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — A woman has been flown to Allegheny General Hospital Wednesday afternoon for treatment of unknown injuries after her car went off the road in the 600 block of Route 68 and down an embankment before hitting a tree.

State police did not release the driver’s age or identity, saying they had not been able to confirm that information with family members.

Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeff Stoner said the vehicle, a silver Buick sedan, was traveling east on the road when it drifted into the lawn of a home, hit several bushes, and went down an embankment before hitting a tree. The driver was trapped in the vehicle, Stoner said, and emergency responders from Oneida Valley and East Butler fire companies assisted in extricating her.

State police said no one else was in the vehicle when the accident occurred about 2:18 p.m.

The crash snarled traffic along the road for more than an hour as emergency responders freed the driver and worked to remove the vehicle, which was badly damaged, from the wooded embankment.
