Michael J. Zavacky, 89, of Lyndora passed away Tuesday at the Community Living Unit of VA Butler Healthcare.

Born July 23, 1925, in Bredinville, he was a son of the late John H. and Anna Jenesko Zavacky.

He was the last surviving member of the Zavacky family.

He was employed as a shearman at AK Steel, retiring in 1999 following 43 years service.

He was a member of St. John the Baptiste Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.

He was a lifetime member and one of the first members of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW post 249 of Butler.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed country music, the Pirates and the Steelers and having coffee every morning at McDonald's with his friends.

He was a loving and devoted grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Baronick Zavacky, who he married on Jan. 23, 1965; one son, Steve (Ramona) Zavacky of Florida; two daughters, Lori Ann Zavacky of Carnegie, Allegheny County, and Karen Zavacky Badger of Butler; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters.

ZAVACKY — Friends of Michael J. Zavacky, who died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. The Rev. Leo Schlosser, pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Butler.A Parastas service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
