Bounce house tossed; children OKMIAMI — Two of the three children tossed onto a South Florida beach from a bounce house sent flying by a waterspout have been sent home from a hospital with minor injuries, hours after the inflatable was sent airborne above palm trees and a four-lane road, police said.Authorities said the two children were sent home Monday and a third child was in stable condition and being held overnight for observation after the waterspout lifted up the bounce house from the beach.No pedestrians or vehicles were hit when that and a second, unoccupied bounce house went flying, police added.All three children were quickly thrown to the beach Monday as the bounce houses were uprooted and both inflatables then crashed in a parking lot across a state road, police said.A police statement said two of the children were treated for minor fractures and released while the third was stable at Broward Health Medical Center.

Pressure cooker destroyed in D.C.WASHINGTON — A bomb squad safely destroyed a pressure cooker found in an unattended vehicle parked on the National Mall near the U.S. Capitol and the vehicle’s owner was found and arrested, a U.S. Capitol Police spokesman said.Police Lt. Kimberly A. Schneider said Capitol Police officers on routine patrol spotted the parked, unoccupied vehicle on a street on the mall west of the Capitol around 5 p.m. Sunday.“Further investigation revealed a pressure cooker, and an odor of gasoline was detected,” Schneider said, adding a Capitol Police bomb squad was called in because the vehicle was deemed “suspicious.”

‘Ride for Freedom’ honors veteransWASHINGTON — The roar of motorcycle engines filled the air in the nation’s capital on Sunday as thousands of bikers saluted military veterans with the Rolling Thunder “Ride for Freedom.”The bikers and spectators thronged to the Washington, D.C., area as they do each Memorial Day weekend for the annual ride. The event got its start in 1988 and it honors military veterans and members of the military missing in action.Bikers rallied at the Pentagon all morning Sunday, then crossed the Memorial Bridge at midday before cruising around the National Mall.Some of the bikers rode with large American flags trailing behind them. Marines in uniform and white gloves saluted as the bikers roared passed monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial.With so many motorcyclists on the roads all weekend, drivers around the nation’s capital were advised to watch for road closures associated with Sunday’s rally.Bikers also gathered elsewhere around the country.
