Jay Cortese struck out five in two innings of relief to get the win and also singled, doubled and drove in two runs as Saxonburg opened up the Eagle County League schedule with a 5-3 win over Freeport Wednesday night.

Ryan Denny also had a pair of hits for Saxonburg.

Seth Napierkowski homered and drove in all three runs for Freeport.

Mars II 8, Cranberry 1 — Eric King homered, singled and drove in five runs to lift Mars to a season-opening win.

Nathan Weiss picked up the win, fanning six in five strong innings.

Tanner Master went 3-for-4 and scored the only run for Cranberry.

Pine-Richland 7, Zelienople 1 — Zach Sharrer and Bennett Zynn each singled twice to help Pine-Richland beat Zelienople.

Nick Chavarra was the winning pitcher for Pine-Richland (1-0), striking out nine batters in six innings of work.
