Bruce E. Slater
Bruce E. Slater, 65, of Butler passed away Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1949, in Butler, he was a son of the late Raymond F. and Eileen M. (Geibel) Slater.
He was employed as a crane and saw operator for Marmon Keystone. He retired in 2012 following more than 45 years service.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland. He was also a member and a former chief of the East Butler Fire Department, and a past vice president for the Relief Club of the East Butler Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the Happy Hunters Club in Fenelton, and a member of the Chicora Moose and the Larry George Golf Leagues from the Highland Golf Course.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and family vacations.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria (Wasson) Slater, who he married Sept. 30, 2000; three sons, Chad (Michelle) Slater of Butler, Shawn Slater of Butler and David (Jodi) Strader of Saxonburg; one daughter, Crystal (Henry) Spreng Jr. of Saxonburg; four grandchildren, Amber, Melissa, Henry III and Andrew; and two brothers, Gary (Margie) Slater of Chicora and Paul (Jane) Slater of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
SLATER — Family and friends of Bruce E. Slater, who died Friday, April 17, 2015, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 864 Chicora Road, Chicora. The Rev. Rick Thompson will officiate.Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chicora.
