John H. Armstrong

John H. Armstrong, 75, of Indiana, Pa., entered into eternal rest Thursday. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

John will be remembered by his wife, Kathy Rend Armstrong, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his children, daughter Marybeth Lehman and her husband, Mike, and son, John and his wife, Stephanie, both of Indiana.

John will also be cherished by his four grandchildren, Kate and Jack Lehman, and Abram and Lucas Armstrong; one sister, Patricia Ordy and her husband, Richard, of Butler; one brother, Brian Armstrong and his wife, Cheryl, of Hudson, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was born in 1939 in Pittsburgh to Harold and Mary McNamara Armstrong.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1957 and entered the U.S. Navy. He served on the Navy Carrier USS Independence CV-62. While enlisted, he participated with a team as a mechanic that flew scientists involved with the lunar landing program.

Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, he went on to graduate from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He worked as a trooper at multiple barracks across Western Pennsylvania and was promoted to corporal. He then went on to graduate from Indiana (Pa.) University, graduating with a degree in criminology. He was one of three officers selected to attend law school to represent the Pennsylvania State Police. Having successfully graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Indiana University/Purdue University in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1975, he was transferred to Harrisburg and worked as internal council for the state police. Upon retiring from the state police in 1978, he moved to Indiana and opened a private practice. He later joined a law firm, which became Holsinger, Clark and Armstrong, where he practiced for over 25 years.

John was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish, where he served on the parish council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was treasurer for the Indiana County Bar Association, the Indiana Area School Board, the S&T Advisory Board, the Indiana County Children and Youth Advisory Board, and was active in many other community organizations. John was an avid golfer, fisherman and craftsman.

ARMSTRONG — Visitation for John H. Armstrong, who died Thursday, April 16, 2015, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, Pa.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the John H.
