Dear Dad,

The day you left us, the world suddenly seemed like a big, dark and frightening place. It seemed like the sun shouldn’t bother rising the next day, and the lilac that you stood in front of just days before had no business blooming anymore. It was (and often still is) a hurt so deep that it aches.

Although we miss you terribly, we’ve started to open our eyes and our hearts again to the blessings that you may not be able to share with us here on earth, but that you certainly played a part in.

You’re with us when your beautiful grandchildren play in front of the house that you built to raise your family in. You’re with us when we hear their little voice say, “I love you!”. You’re with us when the first snow begins to fall - a love for which we all must have gotten from you! You’re with us when the lilac blooms and brings good memories of you with it.
