Maxine Grose

Maxine Grose, 91, of Karns City passed away peacefully Monday in the Parker Personal Care Home, Parker.

Born in Lonaconing, Md., on April 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late A.J. Green and Mary V. Monahan Green.

After high school, Maxine attended Catherman's Business School in Cumberland, Md. She worked for Kelly Springfield Tire for several years and as a secretary for the Colonial Music Shop. She was working until the time of retirement for Ideal Buick in Frederick, Md.

She tirelessly volunteered and served as a Eucharistic minister at Saint John Catholic Church, Frederick, Md. She was a charter member helping to start AMI and NAMI and was on the board for the Frederick County Mental Health Association for many years.

When she came to Chicora, she joined the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Altar Rosary Society of the church. She also was a member of the Chicora Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards and socializing.

She married Kenneth R. Grose on Aug. 11, 1943, and he died July 31, 1984.

She is survived by her daughter, Chris Snyder and her husband, William of Karns City, who cheerfully showed their love, respect and friendship to her mother by graciously sharing their home with Maxine and her little dog; her sons, John Grose of New Castle and James D. Grose and his wife, Cathy, of Thurmont, Md.; her grandchildren, Michele and Bud Snyder, and Jamie and Justin Grose; and six great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of five sisters and four brothers.

GROSE — Friends of Maxine Grose, who died Monday, April 13, 2015, will be received at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, officiated by the Rev. Rick Thompson.Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, Md.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Parker Personal Care Home, 103 Seward St., Parker, PA 16049.For information, directions and to extend condolences to her family, go to www.steighnerfuneralhome.com.
