Body found in woods near Butler Memorial
BUTLER TWP — Authorities on Thursday afternoon recovered a body in the woods behind East Jefferson Street, west of the entrance of Butler Memorial Hospital.
Township police are investigating but have not yet released details on the incident.
Butler City Fire Chief Nick Ban said his department was called out at 1:12 p.m. to assist in removing a body that was found on a wooded hillside, more than 150 feet off the 800-block of East Jefferson Street.
A section of the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad, which runs at the bottom of the embankment, was temporarily closed due to the recovery.
Ban said crews removed the body by taking it down the hillside and across the several sets of railroad tracks. That took about 45 minutes.
The body was turned over to the Butler County Coroner’s office.
No information on the person’s identity was released.
