Grapevine, MTG do free show

The Grapevine Center in Butler in cooperation with the Musical Theatre Guild is hosting free performances of the musical “Next To Normal” at the MTG production center at Memorial Park.

Curtain is 7:30 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday. A matinee performance is planned for 3 p.m. Sunday.

The rock musical explores how a suburban family copes with bipolar mental illness.

‘Peter Pan Jr.’ staged Saturday

WEXFORD — The Keystone State Musical Theatre Academy student production of “Peter Pan Jr.” will be staged at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Marshall Middle School, 5145 Wexford Run Road.

The show includes students ages 7 to 14 from Butler, St. Gregory’s, Seneca Valley, Mars, PA Cyber, North Allegheny, and Pine-Richland schools.

The score includes classic Disney songs such as “You Can Fly” and “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me.”

Tickets are $10; children 3 and younger are admitted free. Tickets are available at KeystoneStateMusicalTheater.org or at the door.

Spring Gas Up scheduled

PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Steam Show’s Spring Gas Up is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the show grounds, 1512 Perry Highway.

Attractions include antique cars, old tractors, train rides, gas engines, saw milling, steam engines, crafts and exhibits, a flea market and food.

Admission is $2; children age 11 and younger are admitted free.

Concert benefits MHY

FRANKLIN TWP — The Leadership Butler County Class of 2015 will present a benefit concert for MHY Family Services on June 4 at The Atrium, 1031 New Castle Road.

The acoustic trio of Scott Blasey, Rob James and Greg Joseph of The Clarks will headline the show. Also performing will be Highway 4 and Present Tense with guest guitarist Greg Marra.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 6:30 p.m.

There will be food, beverages, and live and silent auctions.

Proceeds will go toward building a pavilion on the MHY campus in Adams Township that will be used for education, counseling and other services. The pavilion will also be open to the public.

Look-alike contest set in Titusville

TITUSVILLE — Drake Well Museum and Park and the Friends of Drake Well will celebrate Pithole 150 with a look-alike contest on June 6.

The contest is one of many programs scheduled to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Pennsylvania’s oil boomtown.

The opening event of the celebration, Wildcatter Day at Pithole, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pithole Historic Site, 14118 Pithole Road.

The Pithole 150 Look-Alike Contest is free and open to men and women of all ages. Contestants should resemble Reverend Darius Steadman, Mrs. Steadman, Ben Hogan or Pauline Rudolph. Photos and biographies of each of these historic Pithole figures are available on the Drake Well Museum Facebook page in the Look-Alike photo album.
