Baseball tourney coming to Butler

Atlantic Coast Baseball will hold its 12-team 14-under Mother’s Day Challenge this weekend at Kelly Automotive Park and Highfield Park.

Games will be played Friday through Sunday.

Numerous teams from Pittsburgh will be playing in the tourney, along with the Pa. Redhawks out of Grove City, the Penn Warriors of Penn Township and teams from Monroeville, Camp Hill, Mogadore, North Huntingdon, Canonsburg and Sewickley.

Summit’s McCloud gets HOF induction

HERMAN — Summit Academy athletic director and wrestling coach John McCloud will be inducted into the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame May 16.

A 1972 Valley graduate and an All-American wrestler at Mansfield University, McCloud helped open Summit Academy in 1996. He serves as executive director of the school.

The induction banquet will be at 7 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel in New Kensington.

GCC shortstop Shirey PAC Player of Year

GROVE CITY — Grove City College senior shortstop Kelsey Shirey has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Softball Player of the Year.

Shirey hit .471 this season and led the league with a .525 on-base percentage, .835 slugging percentage and a .538 average with runners in scoring position.

A third-time All-PAC first team selection, Shirey is GCC’s first-ever Softball Player of the Year winner.

Grove City and first-year coach Kristen Hughes-Cramer were selected as the PSAC Sportsmanship Award winners.

Butler grad Marak shines for W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Butler graduate and Washington & Jefferson senior third baseman Sadie Marak has been named first team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference in softball.

Marak hit .339 and struck out only six times in 118 at bats.

Freeport graduate and Westminster sophomore third baseman Emily Lindsey made second team All-PAC. She hit .360 with 10 doubles.

Seneca Valley graduate and W&J junior pitcher Emily Watson made honorable mention. She was 9-7 with a 2.80 earned run average and hit .325 with two homers and 25 RBI.
