James A. Slater

James A. Slater, 70, of Greece City passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family. He fought a long, hard battle with heart disease and the VNA Hospice assisted the family in his wish to be at home for his last days.

Jim was the son of the late Harry A. Slater and the late Frances J.(Penar) Slater.

He was a Catholic. Jim was a 1963 graduate of Butler High School and retired from Armco in 1999. In his lifetime he enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his son, brothers and nephews. Jim also loved gardening, and feeding and taking care of his birds.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Ball Slater, whom he married Jan. 11, 1969; one daughter, Kristine E. Slater of Chicora; one son, Kurt (Marni) Slater of Chicora; one grandson, Aaron; two step- granddaughters, Meisha and Presli; five sisters, Evelyn Slater, Karen Cress and Ruth Schilling, all of Butler, Marion Watts of Pittsburgh and Linda McCullough of Florida; four brothers, Robert (Karen) Slater of Butler, Ronald (Grace) Slater, Richard (Michelle) Slater and John Slater, all of Chicora; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by one sister and one nephew.

SLATER — The family of James A. Slater, who died Thursday, March 26, 2015, will receive friends at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. A blessing service will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Thompson of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North Oakland officiating. Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Butler County Disabled Veteran's, P.O.
