Alfred Fugini

Alfred Fugini, 83, of Pittsburgh's North Hills, formerly of Chicora, passed away Saturday at Cranberry Place after a lingering illness.

He was the son of Peter and Marie Fugini; the loving husband of Joyce (Deets) Fugini; the father of Lisa (Kevin) Murphy, Tom (Paige) Fugini and Laura (Dave) Kurywchak; and the grandfather of Connor Murphy, Brayden and Tatum Fugini, and Michael, Matthew and Natalie Kurywchak. He is survived by four brothers and three sisters, Lewis, Father Francis Fugini OFM Cap., Vincent, Franklin, Bernadette Martin, Sylvia Pennington and Rose Rumbaugh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Robert, Carl and Gloria Sacharski.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, having taken his basic training with the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

He was a graduate of Gannon College and began his career at the Erie City Iron Works, later Westinghouse Bettis, and worked for more than 30 years as a mechanical design engineer for Pitt Des Moines.

His passion was classic and antique automobiles. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church, the North Hills Automobile Club and the Early Ford V8 Club.

The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and aides of UPMC Passavant Cranberry Place for their kind and compassionate care.

FUGINI — Friends of Alfred Fugini, who died Saturday, March 28, 2015, will be received today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry, 2678 Rochester Road.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mater Dolorosa Church, Chicora.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Road, Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090.
