Rock sweeps UPJ, gets West Chester in PSAC

Slippery Rock University received a home run from six different players in a 16-3 drubbing of the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday at Point Stadium.

Jake Nogalo, Tyler Walters, Adam Urbania, Alex Bell, Logan Brown and Jordan Faretta each homered as The Rock led 6-0 after four and a half innings and added nine runs in the top of the seventh.

Preston Falascino earned the victory on the mound after allowing three runs on nine hits in six innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.

In the second game, SRU plated four runs in the top of the seventh to defeat UPJ 12-11.

Ty Zimmerman, Walters, Urbania and Brown each drove in a run in the decisive frame.

Reliever Anton Constantino got the victory despite allowing a pair of earned runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Jimmy Divosevic earned the save by pitching a scoreless seventh frame.

The Rock (29-16 overall) finishes the regular season with a conference record of 18-10. They will face West Chester (26-11) in the first round of the PSAC Tournament at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kelly Automotive Park.

Track and Field

Butler High School graduates Kennedy Evans and Jasmine Bailey were part of Slippery Rock University’s women’s 4x100 relay squad that topped the field at the Ashland Open in Ohio over the weekend.

The foursome, which also included Lauren Harvey and Lexie Nowakowski, finished the event in 47.96 seconds.
