Bailey, Evans shine on track
Butler High graduates Jasmine Bailey and Kennedy Evans each had big days for the Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team at the Dave Labor Memorial Invitational Saturday.
Bailey won the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 24.70 seconds — just .04 seconds off the SRU record in the event.
Bailey was also second in the 100-meter dash (12.14).
Evans won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.43.
On the men’s side at the invitational, Slippery Rock High graduate Ryan Thompson won the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:55.16.
Baseball
After finishing off a sweep of Clarion University on Saturday that vaulted The Rock into third place in the PSAC West standings, SRU split with Bloomsburg University Sunday.
Alex Pantuso got the win on the mound for The Rock in a 9-1 victory in Game 1.
Pantuso struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
Ty Zimmerman went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.
Logan Brown also homered for The Rock.
Zimmerman went 2-for-4 in the 4-3 loss in Game 2.
The Rock (25-16, 14-10) played six game in three days and will be idle until Friday when it hosts Pitt-Johnstown.
Softball
Butler graduate Cait Baxter had three hits for The Rock in a doubleheader split with Mercyhurst.
Baxter had a single and was hit by a pitch in an 8-2 loss in the first game and had a pair of hits in a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
Baxter is batting .333 this season for The Rock (14-18, 10-10).
