Eugene O'Donnell

Eugene Lathan O'Donnell, 87, of Springdale passed away peacefully Wednesday.

He was born March 25, 1927, in Butler to the late Virginia and Lathan O'Donnell.

He has been a resident of Springdale since 1950.

Mr. O'Donnell was a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a deacon and elder at the Springdale United Presbyterian Church. Mr. O'Donnell was a former president of the Bouquet Park Pool Association, and a charter member of the Masonic Lodge, the Oakmont Elks and the VFW.

He graduated from Grove City College and Carnegie Mellon University and worked for 30 years as an engineer for the former Gulf Lab Research Co. After retirement, he continued to work as a consultant for Senate Engineering up until his death. He acquired many honors and merits with his engineering degree during his lifetime.

He enjoyed hunting and was president of the camp that he shared with some of his closest friends for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and working on projects around the home and for anyone that needed a helping hand. Mr. O'Donnell loved sports and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin and Steeler fan. He loved having Super Bowl parties for the fun of it.

Gene was a very loving and caring man. He devoted his life to his wife, daughters, grandchildren family and friends. He was truly an amazing man.

People called him for advice or help on everything because he had to try to fix everything and gained so much knowledge during his lifetime. We will miss his sense of humor and comforting demeanor. He will be remembered by many people and sadly missed by many also.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Susan Marra of Lower Burrell, Diane (Virgil) Leiberton of Sarver and Christine O'Donnell of Springdale; grandchildren, Tara (Aaron) Hajel of Sarver, Carly (Darren) DelGrosso of Hampton, Melissa Leiberton of Pittsburgh, Brittany Borga of California and Christopher (Jessica) Marra of California; three great-grandsons, Carter, and Hudson DelGrosso, and Everett Marra; two siblings, Charles O'Donnell of New Mexico and Marlene (Gary) Gilliland of Chicora; and many nieces and nephews. He loved his dogs (Mitzi) and will be sadly missed by Diva and Levi.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marjorie Brunermer O'Donnell; and his brother, Harry O'Donnell.

O'DONNELL — Family and friends of Eugene Lathan O'Donnell, who died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Charles B. Jarvie Funeral Home, 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale.Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Springdale United Presbyterian Church in Springdale with the Rev. David Carlisle officiating.
