Team owner’s wife wins judge’s rulingLOS ANGELES — The wife of former Clippers owner Donald Sterling is owed $2.6 million by a woman her husband showered with gifts, a judge ruled Tuesday.Judge Richard Fruin Jr. awarded Shelly Sterling money that was community property from six decades of marriage that was secretly spent buying V. Stiviano a house, a Ferrari and other luxury gifts.“Shelly is thrilled with the decision,” attorney Pierce O’Donnell said. “This is certainly a victory for the Sterling family whose funds were dissipated by Donald to lavish millions of dollars of gifts on a conniving mistress.”Stiviano’s lawyer had argued the gifts were made when Donald and Shelly Sterling were separated and that Shelly Sterling couldn’t seek them from a third party. The judge rejected those arguments.

Deputy in shooting booked on chargesTULSA, Okla. — A 73-year-old Oklahoma volunteer sheriff’s deputy who authorities said fatally shot a suspect after confusing his stun gun and handgun was booked into the county jail Tuesday on a manslaughter charge.Robert Bates surrendered to the Tulsa County Jail and was released after posting $25,000 bond. Bates’ attorney, Clark Brewster, told reporters that his client would not make a statement, then ushered him into a waiting SUV.Brewster said Bates is due to make an initial court appearance April 21.The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said Bates, an insurance executive who was volunteering on an undercover operation in Tulsa, accidentally shot Eric Harris, 44, on April 2. Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler charged Bates on Monday with second-degree manslaughter, punishable by up to four years in prison.

Marathon bombing anniversary markedBOSTON — A moment of silence, the tolling of church bells and a call for kindness will mark the second anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.Mayor Martin Walsh and other officials will raise commemorative banners on Boylston Street early this morning.A moment of silence follows at 2:49 p.m., when the first of two bombs exploded near the finish line on April 15. Church bells will then ring throughout the city.Walsh has declared April 15 “One Boston Day,” a new tradition in which Bostonians are encouraged to show kindness and generosity.Three people were killed and more than 260 others were wounded in the attacks.

Doctor in political scandal indictedMIAMI — The Florida doctor charged in a political corruption case along with New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez was indicted Tuesday in a 76-count Medicare fraud scheme that prosecutors said attempted to bilk the health care program out of as much as $190 million.Miami U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer said Dr. Salomon Melgen, 60, was charged with 46 counts of health care fraud as well as additional charges of filing false claims and making false statements. Melgen is an ophthalmologist with offices in Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.The indictment charges that he operated the fraud scheme between 2004 and 2013, a time frame during which Melgen billed Medicare for more than $190 million and was paid more than $105 million.
