Virginia McGuire

Virginia C. McGuire, 86, of Cabot, formerly of Buffalo Township, passed away Monday while in the company of family members at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

Virginia was born on July 31, 1928, in Sarver. She was the daughter of the late Mary Olive Iseman and Glenn D. Cramer.

Virginia was a 1946 graduate of Freeport High School and a 1951 graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.

She worked as a home economics teacher for the Freeport School District, Freeport, working in both the junior and senior high schools for 34 years. She retired in 1990.

She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport. Virginia enjoyed playing bridge, sudoku, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold V. McGuire; her three children: one son, John McGuire of Tampa, Fla., and two daughters, Linda McGuire of Weirton, W.Va., and Marge Christy of Saxonburg; her three grandchildren, Michelle Russell (Jimmy Blackburn) of Tarentum, Pam (Brad) Rowan of Tarentum and Tom M. Christy of Tampa, Fla.; her four great-grandchildren, Connor Russell, Kyanne, Sage and Passion Rowan, and her son-in-law, Tom L. Christy of South Buffalo Township.

McGuire, who passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 323 Fifth St., Freeport, with the Rev. Jocelyn Johnston officiating.
