Charles D. Smith
Charles D. Smith, 81, of Eastlake, Ohio, formerly of Butler passed away Sunday at Lake West Hospital.
Born on Feb. 23, 1934, in Cabot, he was a son of the late Alvin J. Smith and Elva R. Geopfert Smith.
Charles worked in maintenance on diesel engines for the N.Y.C. Railroad, Penn Central, and retired from Conrail in 1996 following 34 years.
He was a former member of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia L. Beck Smith, whom he married on Sept. 4, 1966; his two sons, Timothy D. Smith of Eastlake, Ohio, and Drew L. Smith of Euclid, Ohio; his six grandchildren, and his great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers and his sister.
