Daniel Ronald Dinello

Daniel Dinello

Daniel Ronald Dinello, B.S., M.Ed., 76, of New Castle passed away on Feb. 5 in the Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

Daniel was born on April 6, 1938, in Beaver Falls to the late Louis and Yolanda Lordo Dinello.

He was in the National Honor Society and graduated in the Top 10 Scholars of the 1956 Class at Beaver Falls High School. He won a partial scholarship to Geneva College by taking an all-county intelligence test sponsored by McCarls Plumbing. That year he was a traffic data collector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

He graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree as a secondary teacher in physical science and mathematics in 1961. In 1972, he received his Masters of Education from that same college, completing his two state teaching certificates — elementary and secondary. He taught mathematics and general science at three high schools: Quaker Valley in Leetsdale, Beaver High School and Mars High School and Mars Middle School, for a total of 16 years.

He also taught piano at the Conti Music Store in Beaver Falls and was an avid organist at Trombino's at the Beaver Valley Mall. He played piano at the Chaplin Music Festival at the Pittsburgh Playhouse.

He was an “extra” in 20 films in Allegheny County and appeared as FDR in “Annie” at the Youngstown Playhouse. He also sang in “Oliver,” “Camelot,” “Children of Eden,” and several other shows in Beaver County. He also acted in the outdoor drama “Young Washington” at the Great Meadows Amphitheater in Farmington.

He played piano numerous times at various colleges.

He attended comedy workshops in New York City at the Improv and attended acting classes in that city.

In 1965, he gave lectures in the Space Mobile Program for NASA, which was a traveling multimedia space show for public schools.

He enjoyed Hollywood film history and improvising comedy. He was an avid reader and loved sharing his knowledge. His thanks extends to the great educators at St. Mary's School in Beaver Falls, especially to Sister Renee and his teachers in public school: Mr. Gold, Harr, Walton, Axtell, and Miss Roney, Mrs. Williams and Miss Scott, etc.

His parting advice: Learn something every day and obey all health advice. Show a good example to youth.

Dan was a member of Mensa, the National Education Association and PSEA, and a past-member of AFTRA. He was also a draftsman at Wean-United Engineering.

Dan is survived by his sister, Carol Cavalier of Ellwood City; his niece, Renee Cavalier of New Castle; his grandnephews, Kane Thompson and Isaiah Thompson; his uncle, William Dinello Sr. and his wife, Joanna, of Florida; his aunts, Ruth Perry Pascarella of New Castle and Frances Chiodo Dinello of New Brighton; and his numerous cousins.
