Arthur Marbell

Arthur Daniel Marbell Sr., 90, of Prospect passed away peacefully Saturday evening in the Hall of Honor at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Butler.

Born on Jan. 4, 1925, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Anthony C. and Viola L. Goettel Marbell.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect.

Mr. Marbell faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a corporal in the 3rd Army — 5th Division. He was a prisoner of war, captured in December 1944, held in Stalag IVB, and released in April 1945. He was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with two bronze stars Victory Medal, and he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Critchlow-Hays American Legion Post 417 in Prospect.

He retired in 1983 after 30 years of service, retiring from the VA Butler Healthcare where he worked as a nurse's assistant.

In the mid 1960s, he drove stockcars at the Hickory, Butler and Blanket Hill tracks.

He was an avid Steelers, Pirates, NASCAR and World of Outlaws fan. He enjoyed his family camp at East Brady, where he loved boating in his 1965 Century Mahogany Boat and sitting around campfires.He is survived by his two children, Eileen L. Roxbury of Prospect and Arthur (Lorinda) Marbell Jr. of Boyers; his grandchildren, Lori (Tim) Durso of Prospect, Rich (Jenn) Roxbury of Butler, Shelly (Steve) Wilson of East Brady and Mindy Marbell of Pittsburgh; his five great-grandchildren, Laken and Madison Roxbury, and Leah, Landon and Alex Wilson; his three sisters, Hattie Harmon of Prospect, Marie Lachowski of Warren, Ohio, and Loretta McIntyre of Granger, Ind.; his brother, Daniel Marbell of Ervin, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Marbell, who he married on May 15, 1944, and who passed away on July 1, 2004, and his son-in-law, Richard Roxbury, who passed away on July 22, 2010.

Marbell — Visitation for Arthur Daniel Marbell Sr., who passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015, will be from 5 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect, with the Rev. Gary Brown, his church pastor, officiating.The service will end with military honors, and interment will be private in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, P.O.
