Mars School District will review policies

ADAMS TWP — The Mars School District has amassed about 275 policies over the years to cover situations that students and staff could face.

Over the next year, those policies will be reviewed and revised to create an updated policy manual.

Josh Schwoebel, the district director of communications, said at Tuesday night’s school board meeting that he is completing the project through a Web portal provided by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

He said the PSBA will review each section of the policy manual, ensuring all are up to school code.

Acting Superintendent William Pettigrew suggested that as each section is completed, Schwoebel send it to the district solicitor for review.

“Sometimes the district solicitor and the PSBA don’t agree,” Pettigrew said.

Board President Dayle Ferguson said while some policies are reviewed frequently, others are more rarely used and need to be revisited.

“It’s just good practice to go back at timely intervals to look at policies and make sure they are current and relevant,” Ferguson said.

Schwoebel said the sections of the manual will be available for public review as they are done.
