Freeport grad lands in WPIAL Hall of Fame
Jeff Christy, a 1987 Freeport High School graduate and 10-year NFL veteran, is one of the newest members of the WPIAL Hall of Fame.
He was inducted into the hall this morning. The induction took place at the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.
Christy made the Pro Bowl three times during his pro career as a center with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He also earned a Super Bowl ring as the starting center for Tampa Bay in 2003.
Also among today’s inductees was longtime Midland High School boys basketball coach Ed Olkowski. He was 322-96 at Midland, won seven WPIAL titles and four state championships.
A Beaver Falls High School graduate, Olkowski played basketball and baseball at Slippery Rock University and is in the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame.
