Dorothy Solomon

Dorothy Jane English Solomon, 87, of Zelienople passed away Friday.

Known to many by her nickname of “Pudge,” she was born on Oct. 18, 1927, to her parents, the late Robert and Lillian English, in Cranberry Township.

She married Ronald Solomon in 1954. After living in Pittsburgh and Chicago, the Solomons returned to Cranberry Township in the early 1960s, where Dorothy lived until 2003.

Dorothy worked at several different companies over the years as a secretary and clerical worker, including at Standard Oil, the Pittsburgh Pipe Cleaning Co., the Society of Automotive Engineers and Air Industrial.

She was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Evans City, where she served on various boards and committees over the years. She was most recently involved with the Ruth Circle at church. Dorothy also enjoyed time playing cards with a group of friends several times a month in the area.

Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Laurie Solomon of Pembroke, Mass.; her sister-in law, Patricia English of Cranberry Township; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a remarkable group of friends and caregivers who were always there to help her with any needs and provide assistance.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her sister, Patricia Conrad; and her brothers, Robert English and James English.

Solomon — Dorothy's family will welcome friends of Dorothy Jane English Solomon, who passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Harmon officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest privately at the Evans City Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Dorothy's honor in support of the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 330 E.
