No one injured after grease fire at SRU dorm

SLIPPERY ROCK — No one was injured Thursday night when a pan of grease caught fire in a dormitory building kitchen at Slippery Rock University.

“The sprinkler system pretty much took care of it,” said Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dave Taggart.

The fire started at 8:16 p.m. when some students were cooking in a community kitchen in Building F, Taggart said. The students left the kitchen and the door locked behind them. A pan of grease caught fire and the building was evacuated.

Taggart said the sprinkler system took care of much of the work and the fire departments returned to their stations in about an hour.

He estimated the damage at $10,000.
