George Miller

George Arthur Miller, 91, of Harmony passed away on Monday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born on June 16, 1923, in Mt. Chestnut, the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Shields Miller.

George, or “Art” as he was known by many, was a member of the Portersville Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He proudly served as head usher for many years and was well-known for greeting people with a piece of candy and a smile. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 44th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in the European Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart for an injury that he received in Germany.

He was employed as a welder for several local businesses, retiring from Berry Metal in Harmony in 1986.

George married Hazel Lucille Stewart Miller on Sept. 29, 1948. They were married more than 64 years before her passing on Dec. 1, 2012.

George's passions included gardening, hunting and NASCAR. He took pride in his raspberry patch, as well as growing large potatoes and tomatoes. George hunted deer and pheasants into his late 80s, and spent most autumn Saturdays in the fields with one of his bird dogs.

George is survived by his four children, Bruce (Beth) Miller of Prospect, Brenda (Ken) Miller of Harmony, Becky (Howard) Harlan of New Castle and William (Arlene) Miller of Indiana; his eight grandchildren, Bryan (Kelli) Miller, Megan (Sam) Plunkard, Amy (Matt) Nichols, Eric (Sarah) Miller, Laura Harlan, Dan Harlan, Natalie (Tim) Palma and Nathan Arthur Miller; and his 10 great-grandchildren, Kennedi, Cal, Lane and Jace Miller, Taylor, Hannah and Clara Plunkard, and Dylan, Caleb and Crosby Nichols.

In addition to his parents and his wife, George was preceded in death by his brother, Willis, and his four sisters, Jean, Alice, Mary Etta and Betty.

Miller— The friends and family of George Arthur Miller, who passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville.A service with military honors will follow at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Dana L. Opp officiating. George will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, P.O.
