SRU softball splits
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women’s softball team opened its home schedule by splitting a doubleheader with Pitt-Johnstown Tuesday.
The Rock (5-11, 2-4) won the first game, 8-1, but dropped the nightcap, 9-8. Butler grad Caitlin Baxter had a RBI double. Stacey Herzog had three hits on the day, including a pair of home runs. Ashley Samluk had a homer, and three hits for SRU while Katie Kaiser went 5-for-7.
Carly DeRose was the first-game winner, striking out nine.
