Peter Zanicky

Peter Zanicky, 84, of Butler passed away Monday at the Life Care Hospital.

Born on Sept. 15, 1930, in Butler, he was a son of the late Andrew Zanicky and Irene Kopach Zanicky.

He worked as a grinder for the Pullman Standard Car Company in Butler for more than 30 years, retiring when the plant closed.

He was a member of the St. Michael Greek Catholic Church in Lyndora and the American Legion. He had played baseball and softball and was an avid sports fan.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his children, Peter A. Zanicky, Stephen G. (Kathy) Zanicky, Mary E. (Mark) Leitem, Joyce A. (John) Brough, and John T. (Roxanne) Zanicky, all of Butler; his 12 grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Ann Podobensky of Butler; and his close friend, Virginia Bowser of Butler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Rishwain Zanicky, who he married on Aug. 5, 1950, and who died on Oct. 19, 2010; his four brothers; and one sister.

Zanicky — The friends of Peter Zanicky, who passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at theGeibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Parastas services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Michael Greek Catholic Church, 610 Hansen Ave., Lyndora, with the Rev.
