Eileen Margaret Drennan Starr, 86, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, passed away peacefully Monday at her home after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Buck Hill Falls, the daughter of the late Harry J. and Edith W. Drennan.

She graduated as the salutatorian from Barrett Township High School in the Pocono Mountains. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Penn State University in 1950 and taught at Mt. Aloysius College in Cresson.

On Jan. 31, 1953, she married H. Paul Starr Jr. of Valencia. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in January.

Mrs. Starr enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. In addition, she was an avid fan of Penn State football and the “Antiques Road Show.” She was also a docent at Hartwood Acres in Allegheny County, past president of the St. Thomas in the Fields Women's Guild, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, a Girl Scout Brownie leader, and was active in the Woman's Club of Butler County.

She always was ready to experience new places and took pleasure in seeing different venues such as Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Africa, Ireland, France, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Greece and Italy. She also traveled extensively in the United States, visiting all 50 states except North Dakota.

She is survived by her husband, Paul, and her sister, Helen Rumberger (William) of State College. In addition, she is survived by her four children, Eileen Florence Starr (Timothy) of Bowling Green, Ky., H. Paul Starr III (Annamarie) of Valencia, Linda Edith Starr McNamara (Thomas) of La Jolla, Calif., and Donna Starr-Deelen (Bart) of Kensington, Md., and her beloved grandchildren include Maura Francis, Brendan Thomas, Margaret Eileen and Claire Starr McNamara, Elayne Lida and Olivia Pauline Deelen, Ethan Starr Evans, and Anastasia Marie and Paul Charles Starr. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Starr— Friends of Eileen Margaret Drennan Starr, who passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas in the Fields Church in Gibsonia.Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas charities or to the Lighthouse Foundation.Directions and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
