Roy Francis Etchison Sr.

Roy Etchison

Roy Francis Etchison Sr., 74, of Butler and Calabash, N.C., and formerly of Monroeville, passed away Saturday afternoon in Butler.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1940, in Braddock, Allegheny County, to the late Ralph Stewart Etchison and Phyllis Vivian Lees.

He graduated in 1958 from Penn Hills High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He attended both Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh.

He married Harriet “Cindy” Lucinda Allen on July 14, 1962.

His career spanned from 1965 until 2005 as he worked for the Westinghouse Electric Corp. and retired as a project estimator for Siemens Energy at the Penn Hall site.

He was a member of the St. James Fisherman Episcopal Church of Shallotte, N.C., and a former member of the St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Monroeville.

He loved to travel and golfing was an integral part of his life. He was a member of the Grand Strand Amateur Radio Club where he was a Level 4 ham radio operator.

Survivors include his loving wife, Harriet “Cindy” Allen Etchison at home; his two daughters, Cindy Lou Cinotto and her husband, Mark, of San Diego, Calif., and Terri Dawn Shimshock and her husband, Matthew, of Fairview, N.C.; his son, Roy Francis Etchison Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Rocklin, Calif.; his brother, Donald P. Etchison of Lake Mary, Fla.; his two sisters, Linda L. Critchlow and her husband, Thomas, of Monroeville and Lois K. Lamanna and her husband, Lou, of Jeanette; his brother-in-law, Jack Allen of Slippery Rock, and his six grandchildren, Courtney Martorella and her husband, Pete, Christopher Etchison, and Matthew, Christina, Hannah, and Andrew Shimshock.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Etchison — The family of Roy Francis Etchison Sr., who passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev.
