Tornado bowlers fall short
EPHRATA — Butler’s high school bowling season ended with sixth and 10th place finishes, respectively, at the Pennsylvania High School State Team Bowling Championships Saturday at Dutch 222 Lanes.
The Golden Tornado boys placed sixth with a 4,014. Hempfield paced the 12-team field with a 4,290, but lost the state title to Neshaminy in the stepladder finals.
The Tornado girls placed 10th with a 3,735. Elizabethtown led after qualifying with a 4,109, but was defeated in the stepladder finals by Pennsbury.
Numerous Butler bowlers posted solid individual scores during qualifying. On the boys side, Matt Wetzel rolled a 628 series, including games of 237 and 205.
Hunter Lefever rolled a 245 game and 623 series, Shawn Marcellus a 242 game and team-leading 640 series.
Megan Paul — who won the girls singles state crown Friday — rolled team leading scores of 216 (game) and 577 (series). Fellow Tornado senior Abby Bagley rolled a 215 game.
MiKayla White rolled a 202 game and 570 series, Baylee Verner a 201 game and 547 series for the Butler girls.
