Inauguration set for GCC chief

Paul McNulty
Starr, Ashcroft slated to speak

GROVE CITY — Two well-known speakers will talk at the March 23 inauguration of new Grove City College President Paul McNulty.

Ken Starr and John Ashcroft will speak during McNulty’s installation ceremony at 10 a.m. in Harbison Chapel on the campus of Grove City College.

McNulty, a former Deputy U.S. Attorney General, federal prosecutor and senior congressional lawyer, worked closely with both men during his years in public service.

Starr is the president and chancellor of Baylor University in Texas. He is best known for work on numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, as the U.S. Solicitor General and independent counsel for five investigations, including Whitewater that involved then-President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton.

Ashcroft is chairman of the Ashcroft Group and the Ashcroft Law Firm. He is a former governor of Missouri and a U.S. senator. He also was U.S. Attorney General from 2001 to 2005.

McNulty was the U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia under Ashcroft, overseeing the prosecution of alleged terrorists in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.

McNulty graduated from Grove City in 1980 and is the fourth alumnus to serve as president. He started as president in August, replacing Richard Jewell, who retired.

He also served as a college trustee from 2004 to 2014.
