Brothers guilty in invasion

Two Fairview Township brothers will be sentenced April 23 for nearly killing a homeowner during a home burglary gone bad.

Zechariah McGrady, 19, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and robbery. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors are prepared to recommend he spend 7 to 20 years in prison.

Jeremiah McGrady, 20, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and robbery. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors are prepared to recommend he spend 12 to 25 years in prison.

Court records say the pair on Sept. 20 dressed in masks and dark clothing and broke into Adam Bell’s house on Olive Street in Karns City.

Bell, his wife and four young children were in the house asleep. When the then 34-year-old homeowner awoke and confronted the intruders, Zechariah allegedly pointed an Airsoft pistol at him.

And after Zechariah’s brother stabbed Bell numerous times causing life threatening injuries to his organs, lungs and his brain, Zechariah returned and “kicked the victim in the head,” prosecutors say.

Bell suffered serious injuries and required numerous surgeries.

Attorney Joseph Smith represents Jeremiah and attorney J.W. Hernandez Cuebas represents Zechariah. Both attorneys declined to comment.
