Joseph D. Davidson Jr.
Joseph D. Davidson Jr., 97, formerly of Butler, passed away Feb. 4 in Clearwater, Fla.
Born on March 22, 1917, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Joseph D. Davidson Sr. and Elizabeth Mae Hogsed Davidson.
He retired as vice president and manager of the Butler office of the Union National Bank.
He attended school in Wheeling, W.Va., and Robert Morris College, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Before joining Butler Savings and Trust, he served as secretary-manager of the Credit Bureau of Butler County and the same capacity with the Automobile Club of Butler County.
He was active in the community, serving leadership positions in the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, the Red Cross, the March of Dimes, the Boy Scouts and the Symphony Association, and he had been president of the State Jaycees and Kiwanis Club. He was the oldest living past master of the Victory Lodge and was a devoted member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances “Fran” Green Davidson, who died on Aug. 21, 1991, and his younger sister, Mary Elizabeth Davidson, who died in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen Davidson; his stepson, Robert Starkey and his wife, Alice Jaynet; his sister, Ella Catherine Placette and her husband, Jack, of Hemphill, Texas; and his two nephews, Robert and his wife, Trixie, and Kenneth and his wife, Lethea, all of Texas.
Davidson — The friends of Joseph D. Davidson Jr., who passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Swanson, pastor, officiating.
