CONNOQUENESSING TWP — The Butler County Humane Society got a sizable donation Saturday courtesy of Kerven Subaru.

The society received $10,900 from Subaru’s “Share the Love” event.

The Subaru event ran from Nov. 20 to Jan. 2. During that time, for each new Subaru vehicle bought or leased, Subaru donated $250 to one of four national charities or to a local charity, based on the buyer’s choice.

The Share the Love event has taken place since 2008.

Bob Bruggeman, sales manager at Kerven Subaru, said this is the first time individual dealers were allowed to choose a local charity. The dealership chose the society, which it has helped out in the past.

He said most of the people who bought vehicles during the event chose to give the money to the society.

“I think it’s a boost in the arm for the humane society,” Bruggeman said.

Marci Mustello, board president of the humane society, said this is the first time the society will benefit from the Share the Love event, but she noted Kerven always has supported the society through donations.

“Through the years, they always have been there for us,” Mustello said.

She said the donation is exciting. “Any amount of support we can get from the community just means so much to us.”

She said the money will go directly to the care of the animals at the society.

It takes up to 1,000 stray, abandoned and surrendered animals annually.
