SRU rallies in 8th, scores 6-3 victory
Adam Urbania went 3-for-5 with a home run and 4 RBIs to help Slippery Rock University’s baseball team beat the University of the Sciences 6-3 Friday at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Fla.
SRU (4-1) plated four runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Carson Kessler, a Seneca Valley graduate, also drove in a run for The Rock.
SRU was also schedule to play Cedarville University in the second game of a doubleheader, but the second game was canceled due to rain.
Track and fieldThree Butler County athletes were recognized as USTFCCA Atlantic All-Region athletes for their work on the Slippery Rock University mens and women’s indoor track and field squad.Butler graduate Jasmine Bailey earned her first honor after winning the PSAC title in the 200-meter dash and breaking the school and conference record with her time of 24.85 seconds.Slippery Rock High School graduate Breana Northcott broke the SRU record in the weight throw midway through the season with a toss of 17.03 meters. Northcott’s mark is now second all-time, behind teammate Brittany Christiansen’s throw of 17.10.Another Rockets’ graduate, Ryan Thompson, was honored for running the 1,200-meter leg of the distance medley relay.He was on the conference title relay that posted a time of 10:26.95.Thompson finished second in the open 800-meter run (1:55.89) and the mile (4:21.33).Twenty-three athletes in total earned All-Region honors for SRU.
