Tilford 'Til' Dize
Tilford “Til” Dize, 92, of Zelienople, formerly of Wexford, passed away Thursday in the Passavant Retirement Community.
Til was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Walter and Mary Jane Warden Dize Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Altmyer Dize, and his brother, Walter Dize Jr.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Saundra (Richard) Pond of Weeki Wachee, Fla., and Gail (John) Haley of Gibsonia. He was the proud grandfather of Jason Pond and Brian and Drew Haley, along with four great-grandchildren, Jamin, Kamie and Ryland Pond, and Addison Haley. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Staley of Gibsonia, along with several nieces and nephews.
Til joined the Coast Guard in 1942 and was stationed in Brownsville, Texas.
After his discharge, he drove school buses for the North Allegheny School District. He joined the Pittsburgh Railways in 1945 and drove streetcars, and he later drove buses for the Port Authority Transit of Allegheny County. He ended his career as a PAT bus instructor before he retired in 1980.
Til was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting and archery. For years he was a member of the Northside Sportsmen Association. He volunteered from 2003 to 2010 at UPMC Passavant.
He will be sadly missed by his companion, Francis Kopicki.
