Verda Mae Connor

Verda Mae Connor

1951 Verda Mae Connor, Died February 23, 2014

I sit by the fire I started at noon

Look up to see a full moon

I stir the flames to watch them spark

And my memories go back to mark

That night we met in ‘51.’

Just seventeen and having fun

At a party we started to stare

I remember you had copper hair

You were pretty and never alone

I thought about you when I went home

I carry this vision of you as a young Miss

And even remember our first kiss

Sitting by a fire brings these thoughts

I still think of you a lot

And of that night six decades past

When we met at last

I hear your laughter when we had fun

Your face shining like the sun

Our 59 years of marriage was good

As we knew it would

Now it’s a year since you have gone

I can’t believe it’s been that long

I still feel your touch

And still love you very much

Now I live a life alone

I wish you could phone

I always liked your voice sound

I miss not having you around

Verda, didn’t we have a life of fun

Because we met that night in ‘51.’
