Harold James Young

Harold James Young, 97, formerly of Line Avenue, Ellwood City, passed away Monday at the Evergreen Nursing Center following a brief illness.

Born on April 1, 1917, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late William and Olive Mae Barnnet Young.

He was married on Aug. 27, 1939, to Sara I. Eiler Young, who passed away on Jan, 26, 2009.

Mr. Young graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937. He retired in 1974 after 33 years of service working as a clerk for U.S. Steel in Ellwood City.

Harold served in the Navy as a petty officer during World War II.

He was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Ellwood City.

Harold was the vice president of Local 1220 for six years. He was also a member of the Ellwood City School Board for six years.

Survivors include his two daughters, Olivia Lyons (Larry Sten) of Washington and Sarena R. Wheeler of Ellwood City; his son, John (Cindy) Young of Cambridge Spring; his five grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; and his seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Duncan. The last of his family, he was also preceded in death by his four sisters, Martha Heisner, Bertha Brenneman, Ann Connor and Etta Weyman, and his three brothers, George, William and Milton Young.

Young — Visiting hours for Harold James Young, who passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at theMarshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.Friends also will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Military service will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Middle Lancaster.Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission in New Castle.Online condolences may be sent to marshallsfh.com.
