Hair salon open; injured customer back home

BUTLER TWP — The person most seriously injured when a car crashed into Butler Township Hair Specialists on Thursday is recovering at home, and the store has reopened.

Township police believe Edward Holmes, 54, of Grove City suffered a medical condition that caused him to drive the car from the Moraine Pointe Plaza parking lot, through the business’ outside glass wall and collide with a hair dresser station and a waiting area.

Just then, 74-year-old Barbara Walters of Butler was getting out of a hairdressing chair. She was knocked down by Holmes’ Chrysler Sebring as it traveled through a wall and 60 feet into the building.

Walters was taken that day by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

One of Walters’ family members on Tuesday said Walters spent two days at the hospital before returning home. However, the family member said Walters still is recovering.

Leroy Bunyan, 65, of Renfrew and Brian Thompson, no age or address, both were inside the salon and were treated for injuries.

Township police ended their investigation and determined no charges will be filed.

In the meantime, the store wall has been repaired temporarily with drywall. The store opened to customers Monday.

Mariner Finance, which is the business that shares the damaged interior wall with Hair Specialists, remains closed.
