Betty A. Pennington Holliday

Betty A. Pennington Holliday, 87, of Dutch Hill, Parker, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at her home following an illness of several months.

Born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Eldorado, Butler County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Estelle Pennington. She was raised by her late stepmother, Ivy Pennington Merryman.

A Protestant, Betty enjoyed reading her Bible and telling others what she had learned.

Her family was her life, and that included teaching her family her recipes, especially her bread-baking methods, which were well-known by all.

Surviving are her three daughters, Patty King of Cleveland, Tenn., Vickie Weigle of Parker and Kay Peden of Lyman, Wis., and her four sons, Archie Jr. of Parker, Bill (Linda) of Emlenton, Jeff of Cleveland, Tenn., and Tim (Patty) of Grove City; her 17 grandchildren; her 37 great-grandchildren, and her eight great-great-grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her three brothers, Melvin (Susan) Pennington of Palmyra, Jim (Bev) Pennington of Volant and Jim (Joan) Adams of Johnstown, and her special sister-in-law, Betty McCandless Sacks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Holliday Sr., who she married on March 17, 1946, and who passed away on Dec. 13, 2004; her daughter, Kathy Leopold in 1999; her granddaughter, Kim Harrison in 2007; her grandson, Kevin Runyan in 1970, and her great-grandson, Devon Parker. She was also preceded by her siblings, John (Gus) Pennington, Louise Myers, Irma Polansky, and Dorothy Shay, as well as her daughter-in-law, Sandra Holliday, and her sons-in-law, Richard Weigle and David King.

Holliday — Visitation for Betty A. Pennington Holliday, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, will be from noon to services at 4 p.m. Saturday at the West Freedom United Methodist Church, near Parker, with Pastor Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Perryville Cemetery, near Parker.Arrangements are being completed by the H.
