Meetings set to discuss school closures
BUTLER TWP — Informational meetings for parents and staff will be held at each of the five Butler School District elementary schools slated to close at the end of the school year.
“These community meetings will be focused on providing an opportunity for a building parents to speak directly with members of our staff to discuss logistical components of the consolidation plan such as transportation, student scheduling and educational initiatives planned for the 2015-2016 school year,” said Dale Lumley, superintendent, in a prepared statement Monday night at the school board meeting.
All meetings will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays.
The meetings will be:
• Center Avenue — Feb. 23
• Broad Street — March 2
• Clearfield — March 23
• Meridian — March 30
• Oakland — April 6
The meetings will include information from principals and a panel discussion for parents to ask about plans for the new school year.
The school closings are expected to occur under a proposed consolidation plan. The board has to take a final vote in May on the plan.
