Florence L. Neely
Florence L. Neely, 96, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1918, in Butler, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Pearl Wigton Dodds.
She enjoyed baking, cooking and canning, especially making fruit pies and jams which she shared with many neighbors and family members. Having grown up on a farm, gardening was a practical hobby that provided fresh vegetables for canning and freezing.
She was retired from Montgomery Ward in Butler and enjoyed traveling and cruising with family. She was active in bowling leagues and card clubs before her retirement. She attended a number of churches throughout her life, but the Rev. David Fisher was of special importance.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol Plaisted (Ralph) of Butler; her two sons, Robert D. Neely (Nancy Rook) of Boonsboro, Md., and James E. Neely Jr. (Nancy) of Butler; her three grandchildren, Lee Anne Burd (Gregory) of Butler, James E. “J.” Neely III (Shawn) of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Jonathan Scott Neely (Sue) of Philadelphia, and her seven great-grandchildren, Ian Burd of Butler, Finn Neely of Philadelphia, and Zoe, Holden, Axel, Jack, and Ivy Neely of Shaker Heights, Ohio
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Neely in 1993.
