KC board to continue consolidation discussion
KARNS CITY — The Karns City School Board on March 12 will continue discussing potential building consolidation and/or building plans.
At 6 p.m. that day at the high school, the board will hear from a PNC Bank representative about financial bond options and from several architectural firms about the feasibility of building plans.
The board has discussed plans of creating a single campus for all schools by either building a new school next to the high school or by expanding the existing high school.
Also at the meeting, the board heard from cafeteria workers who are worried the board is going to hire an outside company to take over food service.
The board last month heard from The Nutrition Group, which included food samples that some of the school board members’ children had sampled.
Elaine Curran, food coordinator at the high school, turned in a petition with more than 850 signatures urging the board not to bring in an outside company.
Superintendent Eric Ritzert said the board had only consulted with the group and did not request a proposal from it.
A-C Valley, Mars and South Butler school districts work with The Nutrition Group.
And the board approved having additional security cameras installed at the high school for about $7,000. Ritzert said new cameras in the gym and in locker room hallways should be installed by the end of the month to help curb theft.
