Herbert J. Buhler Jr.

Herbert J. Buhler Jr., 93, of Grove Manor, Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, Butler County, passed away Saturday at Grove Manor.

He was born on March 18, 1921, in Lawrence, N.Y., to Herbert J. Buhler Sr. and his wife, Grace.

He married Nina Jule Rushmore, and she lives at Grove Manor where they shared the same room.

Herb was a graduate of Adelphi College in Garden City, N.Y., and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg. He did graduate work at both Boston University and the Julliard School of Music.

Herb was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

He was a Lutheran minister, a former professor and chairman of the Psychology Department at West Virginia Wesleyan College and a former practicing psychologist as well as a professor at Slippery Rock University.

Survivors include his wife, Nina, at Grove City; his son, Christopher David Buhler of Harrisville; his daughter, Rebecca Susan Stupka of Hamburg, Germany; and his four grandchildren, Nyomin Buhler, Rory Buhler, and Taylor Buhler and John Stupka.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Carter Buhler, and his brother, Robert Buhler.

Buhler — The family of Herbert J. Buhler Jr., who passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Michael Scheer, pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church, presiding.
