Marilyn Ruth Slear

Marilyn Ruth Slear, 79, of Butler passed away at 3:22 p.m. Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born on Nov. 22, 1935, in Yonkers, N.Y., to the late Ralph Stanley Slear and Ruth Lenore Chapman Slear.

Marilyn was a member of the North Main Street Church of God and the Christian Women's Club. She graduated from New York University.

She worked in sales at Wanamaker's and for two years as secretary in a school in Japan. Marilyn also worked at the Museum of Natural History in New York City and as a travel agent in New York City and Columbus, Ohio, where one of her clients was Jack Hanna with his animals from the Columbus Zoo.

Marilyn enjoyed traveling the world, embroidering, sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading.

Marilyn is now reunited with her beloved dogs, Yuki and Emma.

Marilyn is survived by her cousins, Carl (Nancy) Slear and Harriet (Mike) Sanderson, both of Butler, Suzi Woodruff Lacy of San Diego, Calif., Betsy (Ted) Hankins of Grove City, Ohio, Bob (Lynda) Chapman of Plain City, Ohio, and Robert (Hillary) Loomis of New York, and her numerous extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cousin, Beverly (Hank) Loomis Richter.

Slear — There will be no public visitation for Marilyn Ruth Slear, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.A memorial service for Marilyn will be announced later. Interment will take place in Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City, Ohio.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 4850 W. Powell Road, Powell, OH 43065 or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.Arrangements are by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Butler.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
