SUMMIT TWP — A school bus driver was taken by medical helicopter this afternoon after a bus collided into the back of a tanker truck on Route 422.

The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 422 and Bonniebrook Road.

It took rescue crews about an hour to extricate the bus driver before he was taken by medical helicopter. Authorities believe he did not have life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver was also injured and transported.

A state trooper said other people were on the bus at the time, but no one else had serious injuries.

Four high school-aged students from the Indiana School District in Indiana County were on the bus. Those students were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by private vehicle for precautionary reasons.
