James Phillip 'Skip' Curry

James Phillip “Skip” Curry, 89, of Butler passed away peacefully Wednesday at the Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio.

He was born on Oct. 4, 1925, in Brackenridge to the late Ralph Curry and Violet Huber Curry.

Mr. Curry was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force serving as a Staff Sergeant from 1943 to 1945 in England, flying 35 missions over Germany.

He was a welder at Armco Steel, Butler Works, until his retirement in 1984 with 35 years of service.

Mr. Curry was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 117, Hunting and Fishing Club, U.S. Air Force 8th Division Club and the South Butler Township Fire Department. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing expeditions with his family and friends.

Mr. Curry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosamond A. Curry; his son, Robert Curry and his wife, Donna, of Ravenna, Ohio; his two daughters, Susan Sheppeck and her husband, Michael, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Debra L. Curry of Butler; his seven grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; and his cousin, Kathleen (Metzler) DeWayne of Midland, Ore.

Curry — The friends of James Phillip “Skip” Curry, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at theThompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. James E. Swanson of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.Officers and members of the VFW Post 249 of Butler, the American Legion 117 of Butler and the American Legion 778 of Lyndora will conduct graveside memorial services.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Glaucoma Foundation, 80 Maiden Lane, Suite 700, New York, NY 10038.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
