Albert P. 'Al' Smolensky
Albert P. “Al” Smolensky, 96, of Mars passed away Sunday morning in the comfort of his home with his family at his side.
Born on June 5, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Michael and Anastasia Juszczeszyn Smolensky.
He was a 1936 graduate of Oliver High School.
Albert was a retired shop foreman for Moore-Flesher Hauling in Etna.
He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, reaching the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of the Mars VFW Post 7505.
Al was a member of the St. Kilian Church, and he formerly belonged to Nativity, St. Boniface and Annunciation Parishes.
Surviving are his two daughters, Mary Lou Fleming and Ann C. Roczko, both of Ft. Myers, Fla.; his three sons, Paul A. Smolensky and his wife, Marianne of Estero, Fla., Robert W. Smolensky and his wife, Sally, of Raleigh, N.C., and Dr. David Smolensky and his wife, Jennifer of Mars, with whom he made his home; his grandchildren, Daniel Meyer, Heather Lewis and Holly Lowther, and Jennifer Foster and Corey Roczko; his seven great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Chester Smolensky of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Smolensky of Pittsburgh, and his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice C. Hune Smolensky, who he married on April 24, 1946, and who died on Dec. 19, 1996; his brother, Edward M. Smolensky, and his three sisters, Ruth Kennedy, Grace Muchow and Agnes Ruhl.

Charles Bober officiating.
