Man dies this afternoon in crash on Rt. 8
PENN TWP — One man died this afternoon in a head-on collision on Route 8 near Crestmont Drive.
Investigators still don’t know why the man, who was traveling north in a Nissan Altima, crossed all four lanes of traffic and briefly left the road on the southbound side.
As he continued traveling north, his car moved back toward the northbound lanes and then it collided with a pickup truck traveling in the right-hand southbound lane.
Township Police Officer Jack Ripper said it appeared the truck driver tried to stop and avoid the collision, but the vehicles hit head on just before 1:30 p.m.
Police are withholding the identity of the dead driver pending notification of his family. The truck driver from Verona suffered minor injuries but refused treatment.
Both men were wearing seat belts.
Because of the collision, a portion of Route 8 between Dinnerbell and Brownsdale roads was temporarily closed.
